- The £1Million Buy-in in Triton's London stop in 2019 makes it the biggest buy-in tournament in poker history and lends a helping hand for charity.
- Triton Poker sets for a stop in London with a $ 1,325 million buy-in. Since the hosts of Triton Poker announced details of its upcoming event, the hype hasn’t died down. The reason for this is that it is the biggest ever buy-in tournament in the poker industry.
When Triton’s co-founders, Paul Phua and Richard Yong, considered hosting a £1m buy-in event, “CHARITY” was the first sticky note to land on the brainstorming whiteboard. We aim to grow the poker community and aid charities worldwide ♠♥♣♦. Triton Poker is no strangers when it comes to hosting large buy-in poker tournaments. The tour’s Super High Roller Series often has $100,000 and sometimes $500,000 buy-in events on its schedule. On August 1st, Triton Poker hosts the largest buy-in poker tournament in the history of the game, and 22 players have already signed up to play in it.
London’s iconic five-star Hilton Hotel on Park Lane is the venue for the Triton Poker Super High Roller Series London festival that runs from July 31st through to August 8th, 2019. Eight events, with buy-ins starting at £25,000 (approx. $31,000) are scheduled with the headline event being the one that will break the world record for a single tournament buy-in.
The Triton Million for Charity commands a massive £1 million buy-in, plus a £50,000 charitable donation to help raise funds for charities such as the Caring for Children Foundation and Raising for Effective Giving, or REG as it is more commonly known. This monster-sized buy-in is the equivalent of $1,309,298, breaking the record set by the €1 million buy-in Big One for One Drop Monte Carlo that ran in October 2016.
Softest Super High Roller On Record?
There is a unique twist to the Triton Million for Charity in that the tournament is invite only with its entrants being a mix of rich businessmen and women plus professional poker players. The businessmen and recreational players will then play the first six levels against each other, with the professionals locking horns against one another for the same period of time. Any surviving players after the opening six levels then merge and the tournament plays out like a standard tournament. This unique format should make the Triton Million one of the softest Super High Roller events ever run.
Twenty-two players are already confirmed for the Triton Million for Charity, sponsored by partypoker LIVE. A committee has already decided which of these players is considered to be a recreational player and which are the professionals.
Among those on the businessman / recreational side of the fence are Triton Poker co-founder Paul Phua, Hong Kong investor Stanley Choi, the man famous for dating Paris Hilton and Pamela Anderson, Rick Salomon, Dusk Till Dawn owner Rob Yong, and Bobby Baldwin.
Some of the high profile poker players include partypoker’s Player Panel members Jason Koon, Mikita Badziakouski, Timofey Kuznetsov and Sam Trickett, the latter having finished second in the $1 million buy-in Big One for One Drop back at the 2012 World Series of Poker (WSOP) that netted him $10,112,001.

The hype is real and records will be broken with Triton Poker announcing the biggest buy-in tournament in poker history.
The Triton Poker Super High Roller Series is heading to London for the first time on July 31 to Aug. 7 at the Grand Ballroom of London's Park Lane Hilton. As one would expect from Triton Poker, the scheduled is littered with nosebleed buy-in tournaments starting at £25,000.
Besides the fact that it's the first time the illustrious tour sets foot in the British capital, what makes this stop unique is the buy-in of its premier event. The Triton Million - A Helping Hand for Charity Event has a record-breaking £1,050,000 buy-in ($1,325,351/€1,178,798), and runs Aug. 1-3. This smashes the previous record of €1,000,000 for The Big One For One Drop held in Monte Carlo in October 2016.
The event is an invite-only affair to well-known and successful businessmen and women around the world that share a passion for poker. Each recipient of an invitation can also register a guest into the event, which is likely to also include some of the best poker pros.
A total of £1,000,000 of each entry will go towards the prize pool with the remaining £50,000 entry fee going towards charitable causes. Triton Poker predicts that the winner of this event will earn more than any other player in a single tournament event in history.
Currently, Antonio Esfandiari holds the record for the single biggest win after he outlasted a field of 48 entrants in The Big One for One Drop in 2012 to claim the $18,346,673 top prize.
Some Unique Twists
the field will be split between poker professionals and recreational players. For the first part of the first day, the two groups will not battle each other
For the first time in poker tournament's existence, the field will be split between poker professionals and recreational players. For the first part of the first day of three days (up until the dinner break,) the two groups will not battle each other. Only after Level 6 will the two groups merge with the fields combining to play the rest of the tournament out as a traditional freeze-out poker tournament.
To add to the prestige of this big event, players will not be allowed to wear sunglasses, hats, or hoodies, nor will they be able to cover any part of their body from the neck up. In addition, the final table of nine players will be required to be attired in a formal suit, like at the Big One for One Drop in Monte Carlo three years ago.
Players start out with 1,000,000 in chips, the tournament will have one-hour levels throughout, it will operate a big blind ante and 20-second pre-flop, 25-second flop, and 30-second turn and river shot clock.
More details about the tournament can be found on triton-series.com/triton-million/, the tournament structure can be found here.
